Trump Visits Mexico

You've just watched the news clip about Donald Trump visiting Mexico.  Write your thoughts on this visit.

  1. The fact that he can't even decide on his platform says a lot about who he is as a candidate. The news anchors are spot on with their analysis but does he even deserve to be analyzed as a serious candidate?

  2. I agree when they said they think Trump is out of touch with reality and is an opportunist when it comes to his campaign.

  3. Mexico invited him to hurt Trump. Probably just to hurt his reputation, but anything could happen in this election

  4. I think that this visit is important for Trump's campaign, as he has discussed Mexico many times during his campaign. I think that it will be interesting to hear whether or not if Trump and the Mexican President discuss the construction of a wall on the US-Mexican Border, and if so whether or not Mexico will pay for it if Trump is elected.

  5. It is a good way for Trump to feel out the stance on the Mexican government and try to get them on his side in terms of certain immigration policies he has proposed against illegal immigrants. I believe that this trip shows Trump's willingness to compromise with other people and governments and it may change his stance or the Mexican president's stance on who will fund the wall. I think this trip could benefit or hurt both Trump and the Mexican president, depending on the turnout of their meeting.

  6. I believe Trump's motivation for accepting this meeting is to, in his words "seem presidential". He is probably going to deliver his hardline policies with the intent to again stir up his followers. However, the Mexican president will probably greatly benefit from a situation where he can call out Donald Trump for embracing an anti-Mexico sentiment. Nieto can only benefit from pre-emptively calling out Trump's policies, which will doubtlessly inspire outrage from the Mexican people.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I agree with the news anchors who are saying this is a desperate attempt for Trump to seem professional, when really all he's done is continuously flip flop his stance on immigration. He has no plan and is walking into this meeting blindly, and I believe the Mexican president has the upper hand in this meeting (and a chance for an assassination attempt).

  8. While yes, in the video they spoke about how Trump is "wasting his breath," I do believe that this visit to Mexico may help Trump due to the possibility of more stabilized relations with Mexico. Trump has spent the past 18 months bashing the neighboring country and its inhabitants, but this visit may help the Republican candidate begin a new chapter of "political amnesia" and put those comments in the past. This visit may also be in order to gain more approval from a Latino audience and up Trump's approval ratings to a point where he could win more votes.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I agree that Trump has "political amnesia" and that there is no point in analyzing his statements when he's going to say something completely different the next day. He's unpredictable and there's no telling what will happen on his visit to Mexico. I'm not sure what he hopes to achieve in a country he wishes to force into paying for a giant border wall.

  10. The Mexican population should be able to fight back and realize how much this wall could terrorize their opportunities as well and to be honest trump should not be able to have this much power to go to Mexico and be able to talk to their president and to actually reason with him. He does not even respect the Mexican population at all and he is just going to go all extremist as well and he will not take into consideration that the Mexican citizens are actually people. He has a lack of common courtesy to even treat them as humans, how could he be given the power to talk to their president? The Mexican president should be able to prove that trump should not be able to build a wall and take away all the opportunities away from the citizens and also the fact that trump called all of them rapists and criminals?!? That's insane. As the female spokesperson said it is a waste of breath to talk about his strategies because he is so unpredictable and that could take so many lives. For president nieto this is actually a positive political move because he has a common enemy and then he would be loved by his people because he hates trump as well.

  11. I think that trump is visiting Mexico just to try and gain voters by showing that is willing to talk with other countries. Then in his speech in Arizona he will say just what the people want to hear and Maybe change what he has said in the past just to try to get more voters. Matthew Marcusen

  12. The visit will not be productive in anyway. The meeting most likely won't go smoothly and could possibly make relations worse as a result.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think it's a bad idea for Trump, especially since the Mexican president has said multiple times he doesn't like him. I doubt this is an attempt for Mexico to try and form some sort of truce between them and Donald Trump. If this meeting goes poorly for him, Hillary will try and have the meeting for herself, because there doesn't seem to be any bad blood between her and the Mexico president. She would probably try and use the meeting to further emphasize the gap between Trump and Mexico.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think that they were correct in saying Trump's visit to Mexico won't really do much good. If anything, it'll cause more controversy. I don't believe for a second that the meeting between Mexico's president and Trump will go well. The offering and accepting of this invitation was a big mistake on both sides considering all that has been said recently. I believe that both Mexico's president and Trump's approval ratings will drop significantly. In the end, this meeting will only benefit Hillary Clinton.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think the visit will not really do much for trump overall as his stance on Mexico is pretty well ingrained into the Mexican people as well as the president of Mexico. I think it will ultimately backfire on him and will in a way help the Mexican governer boost his ratings by trying to help Mexico as a whole against trump. It will also boast Hillary Clinton's lead even more I believe due to the potential backlash this meeting has to offer for Donald Trump. This decline might further continue leading into his speech at Arizona soon after the meeting concludes since everyone would like to know how it went and eager to see Trump's reaction and thoughts based on said meeting.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think this is a nonsensical decision by him but a great way for the Mexican people and the citizens of the US to really see how he will interact and respond to other countries as an ambassador of our country.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I believe that Trump's visit to Mexico will be, frankly, yet another embarrassment to him and his campaign. After today, he will possibly fall even further out of favor with Mexican-American voters. Mr. Trump's manner of speaking is the exact opposite of diplomatic, and I simply cannot see how meeting with the leader of a nation he has repeatedly insulted will go well.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think Donald Trump visiting Mexico is contradicting. He says a lot of bad and rude things about people coming over to the U.S. I think that the visit is going to be a waste of his time and money, and he should focus on something else, if he's really trying to win. (Soraya)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I was expecting that Trump was going to say no to the visit request. But now i want to know what the mexican president is going to say. He will try to get the support of the mexican people, but i don't think that will happen

  20. It's a publicity stunt. Trump's campaign is centered around sparking controversy. As a conservative liberal I am unsure of who to support in this upcoming election. I believe that regardless of one's political views their character and sense of duty and honor to this country play a huge factor of whether they could be the president as they are representing America. This visit is either an assassination attempt or simply going to unfold into a heated debate between two people who obviously crave attention and garnering votes by any means necessary.

  21. I don't think it is necessary for Trump to visit Mexico because first of all it is pretty late in the campaign. Second, its not a good idea since he is pretty much hated in Mexico. Thus making it very risky for himself. Trump's decision is not rational and not to mention hipocritical. He is just trying too hard to get votes at this point, and it probably will not work out the way he wants.

  22. Diplomatic trips are always very important. Trump going over to Mexico shows the possibility of him smoothing over his relationship with the Mexican people, or tearing it down even further. This is a bold move on his part that could quite possibly influence his policy and the speech he gives in Arizona.

  23. I think Trump sounds hypocritical. Throughout the campaign he has made degrading comments towards Mexicans, and Mexican-Americans, and has declared that they will need to pay for a wall they want no part in. I'm embarrassed that he is representing our nation in Mexico and he should be too. -Jo Davy

  24. The Mexican president is going to slowly tear down trump, but trump will use this attack to his advantage. Stating that the Mexican people are just scared and vulnerable, making his ignorant followers love him even more. The rest of America and Mexico will just hate him even more Jessica Troilo .

  25. Trump is an idiot. His entire campaign has been built on antagonizing Mexico, and President Pena is gonna use this to destroy him. This is nothing more than a PR event for the Mexican president, where he can call out Trump on home turf and build up his approval ratings. Trump is damned as it is, knowing how he responds to questions. Everyone knows he's gonna screw up anyways, the question is how badly is he going to make himself look and how badly is he going to make America look.

  26. After watching the video the visit to Mexico makes almost no sense and he might be trying to gain attention. He appears to be changing his stance on immigration, though it is stated that he will stay with the same stance and not soften it at all. The video itself seemed like it might be a little biased but I'm interested to see how it turns out.

  27. It seems that Donald Trump is out of touch with the reality of the current political situation, as mentioned in the video. After trashing Mexicans and threatening them with a wall, he wants to meet with their President. It doesnt seem like Trump has a real stance on the issue of immigration anymore and that he is trying to back pedal for the sake of votes.

  28. I think Trump plays on people's fears, I think that's how he tries to appeal to people is through using fear and almost guaranteeing that he can change that. I don't think this trip to Mexico will do any good for him, if anything this will burn more bridges than he already has.

  29. I'm suprised that Trump agreed to the visit especially after the previous exchanges he has had with Mexico. I don't know what will come out of the meeting but I don't see a way in which it could benefit trump. (Tyler K)

  30. I agree with some of what the reporters stated as far as he is just trying to salvage what he can for the end of his candidacy. Although I think some of what was said during the video was one sided there was truth in the fact that he does "flip flop" a lot during his campaign. I'm interested to see how his visit will work out for him but I'm not expecting very much to happen.

  31. I think that the Mexican President is trying to trick trump. He is going to invite him over and destroy his campaign. It's almost as Hillary planned this out with the Mexican president as to why she isn't going

  32. Donalld Trump has spoke since the begginning of his campaign that he will build a wall, deport millions, and ultimately tear familes apart and damage the economy. Now, he has been invited to visit Mexico by the President of Mexico. Him accepting the invitation shows that he seeks to gain latino voters, perhaps write some of the more vulgar comments concerning Mexico he has made, and hopefully convice the President of Mexico to cooperate with the construction of he wall. I think he has been too insensative towards Mexico and latino voters, and will have an unsuceccesful trip and be forced to return to the U. S. to watch news reels speculating that with out hard emcouragement about the realisticness of the wall being constructed, and that his latino voters will be lost, as well as the votes of people enticed by the wall and deportation promises.

  33. I don't see a positive outcome for Trump's campaign with this visit. I don't understand why he even received an invitation after continuously trashing the country for the past year and a half. Maybe they have a murderous agenda and will do us all a favor. Trumps diplomatic skills and strategies are random and childish. In the unfortunate event of his election, the United States will become a laughing stock internationally because of the way he handles himself diplomatically.

  34. I don't think the visit will make much difference for his campaign. People already know whether they like him or not. His opinions change constantly so even if the visit goes well, it doesn't change what he already said. Honestly, it's probably not safe.

  35. Trump's campaign is very antagonistic against immigrants; especially Mexican immigrants. I don't think his visit will be productive, however I agree that it is a good opportunity for the Mexican president to get his approval rate up. The intended purpose of this visit was not specified, so I assume the Mexican president will do one of two things--tear him down, or try and make amends for a commaderie. If Trump becomes president, it will be important to have good (or peaceful, at least) relations with Mexico, which is a very important trading country for the United States.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think that Trump going to Mexico is very ironic because he will be giving a speech about immigration afterwards. With the comments that both Trump and the Mexican president made I think them meeting will be really interesting and heated. I think Trump has changed his stance on a lot of things too many times, which makes him seem untrustworthy.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Trump appears to be a laughing stock once again. His stance on immigration has changed multiple times. This visit to Mexico to meet with the President seems like a bad idea. The way he conducts with him will determine how they view America: a joke. This will reflect badly on America.

  38. I think it's weird that Trump would accept the invitation of Pena to Mexico because it seems like Mexico would want to only invite Clinton in order to show what they think of Trump. Although I do understand that if they did that and Trump does become president then there will be even more anger and more things for Trump to use against Mexico when talking about their country. I am curious as to why Hillary Clinton didn't respond to the invitation sooner than Trump, and I definitely want to see if or when she visits the country also. As for the idea of this visit to Mexico helping Trump with Hispanic voters in the United States, I do not think it will effect it at all and Mexican voters will still hate him just as much as they do now. I am also curious to see his immigration speech tonight to see if he backpedals on his previous harsh statements on immigration after going into Mexico and talking with their president.

  39. The female reporter was right about Trump. It's basically a waste to analyze Trump's actions, mainly because he is so lost himself. He constantly changes his answers on a daily basis and he has no respect for the American people. If he becomes president, he will treat the presidency like a business, and he will have no regard for American citizens.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Watching Trump from the beginning of his campaign I have always seen him as a weak candidate who has somehow influenced a wide group of people to buy into his rhetoric. The video only goes to prove his flip flopping, last minute tactics to be weak and nonsensical. To go to meet with the president of a country, which you have based your campaign as being the worst country imaginable, really makes no sense and I believe nothing positive will come out of the Trump campaign from this meeting.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Trump going to Mexico is probably not the best idea because in the past he has only referred to Mexico negatively and it doesn't seem like the president of Mexico is very fond of him either. By continually making fun of Mexico and claiming that Mexico will be paying for a lot of things, including the wall, I don't think the meeting will go very well as both people will be disagreeing on a lot of issues. Trump is never consistent with anything he says and a visit as random as immediate as this, to me, will not result in a positive outcome.

  42. I'm suprised Trump is visiting Mexico after the previous exchanges that has happened between Trump and Nieto. And what I feel is going to happen when Trump visits is Nieto is going to light him up to boost his ratings. 43. I think the visit to Mexico is not going to help trump in anyway what so ever. He had labeled Mexicans as racists and illegals, there is no way that one visit will make up for over a year of bashing that country. Also how can we trust a man that contradicts every word he says. One day he says one thing, the next he denies that he ever says anything and changes his mind completely. (Haley Schneider)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Donald Trump has been a weak candidate from the start. His inability to really relay an actual concrete plan for what he will do if elected is often neglected by those that support him. I cannot understand why he believes that even entering the borders of Mexico is safe for him. The United States and the world together are meant to be diverse, but yet, 26% of American voters support a candidate that specifically, negatively target groups whether it be immigrants, women, minority groups, and others. This idea of building a wall is rudimentary and will be ineffective if enforced.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Trump is no conservative. He is the saddest excuse for a presidential candidate, the fact that he is flip-flopping this far into the campaign is sad, hopefully he gets detained in Mexico, it would do the world a favor, and if this bigotry and this being closed off is what the Republican party is, I want no part in it. Immigration is a good thing.

  47. I believe that Trump's visit to Mexico will be a disadvantage to his own campaign. This visit will be contradicting his previous statements which will give an impression of incredibility. Personally, I think he is simply trying to gain attention. His visit is unnecessary and will not turn out the way he intends.

  48. I think Trump's visit to Mexico is a trap, like what that guy in the video said. The Mexican president literally invited him to come knowing that the Mexican people don't like Donald Trump, so I see no advantage to him doing so unless he is using it as a move to tear him down, therefore boosting his approval ratings. Trump seems desperate enough at this point to go, too. I also worry that he may even become physically harmed, and not even make it back for the election.

    -Faith Fields

  49. I think Trump has wasted a good opportunity to change. The news anchors are right, he can't be trusted if he keeps going back and forth on his policies. At this point he cannot make up for all the damaging remarks and plans that he has put out through his campaign. He keeps digging himself a deeper and deeper grave.

    ReplyDelete
  50. While there are certain issues with the immigration policy that need to be addressed, Trump is in no position to do it. The wall (especially the part about it being paid by Mexico) isn't going to happen. Trump is inconsistent on top of him being a completely nuts. If he were at honest and consistent in what he said, then I would at least have a small shred of respect for him as a candidate. -Hope

    ReplyDelete
  51. Trump's visit to Mexico may display his willingness to cooperate with their government, however when he returned to the U.S.A. he proceeded to revert to his initial campaign policy. In this way, the USA is presented with a candidate who will only say whatever will appease the people he is currently speaking to. This can not benefit the country and people may never know what he stands for.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Donald Trump just lost himself the election, he had an opportunity to boost his votes by accepting an invitation to Mexico and being dipolomatic about everything, but he blew it. Going to Mexico and then *not* talking about the wall? Doesn't sound right. The very thing that he started his campaign off with? Mexico definitely isn't paying for the wall, and Trump and his supporters are delusional if they think Mexico will change their minds.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The way he runs his campaign is similar to the way children think, indecisive and not thoroughly thought out. His visit to Mexico was pointless, it only ended up hurting his campaign because of his refusal to tell the truth about what happens. He knows the wall will be unsuccessful and they will refuse to pay for it, but he won't come out and admit defeat because he knows it will hurt his campaign. He's doing everything possible to hurt his campaign but he doesn't even realize it. -Libby Forcade

  58. The flip flop from Trump on his on his opinion of the Mexican people and immigration from his time in Mexico to his speech in Phoenix really doesn't surprise me. His campaign team will have there hands tied trying to twist this into his favor. Sadly though if they can't this will mostly like be the final nail in the coffin for Trump.

  59. Trump's wild swings on immigration from claiming that Mexcans are rapists and murderers, to attempts at diplomatic relations with the Mexican President, really back him into a corner as far as what his stance on immigration is. After his visit to Mexico, and speech in Phoenix, voters almost have two versions of Trump to choose from-the Trump who decided not to discuss all details of the wall with the President of Mexico when he had the chance, or the Trump who returned to American soil preaching about his plans to build a "glorious" wall.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Trump has a majority of his voters fooled that he is a strong conservative, when really he is just a big time business man that made a name for himself not fit to run for president. I believe his ratings will decrease especially from this visit to Mexico and he will lose. -Trey Campbell

  61. Donald trumps whole campaign seems to be based on contradictions. To the individuals who are gonna vote for him, I wanna know which Donald trump they are gonna vote for because he has many different views and they all seem to contradict. I also think that his contradictions are the reason why he is still relevant in the election.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think that Trump's visit to Mexico was a failed attempt to gain support from Hispanics and voters who seek compassionate immigration reform. It is also very disturbing that Trump can speak of diplomatic friendship in Mexico, and in the span of a few hours in Arizona, totally change back to ostracizing and disrespecting Mexico.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I feel that Trump takes on a radical stance when it comes to immigration, especially with Mexico, and the wall that he intends to contruct. Mexico has come forward in the past and recently to say that they will NOT pay for the wall. Trump on the other hand, is set in his ways that he will make Mexico fund his project and this fails to show signs of diplomacy between him as a potential future president of the US and Mexico. His visit to Mexico sparked controversy and rightfully so. This meeting was anticipated and everyone (Americans and Mexicans) wanted to see what would happen with immigration policies and the wall. But, it seems that Trump and the Mexican President took on two extremely different outcomes from the meeting that don't at all agree with each other. Trump's entire campaign is centered on his extreme view of immigration whether it be with Mexico or refugees in the past. But, his specific positions on issues such as these change almost constantly. His speeches to potential voters (Phoenix) sounds like a sales pitch to cater to the audience and this sales pitch changed dramatically between his meeting in Mexico and what he said in the United States.

  66. Visiting Mexico is Trump's attempt to display his more diplomatic side and show a more open tone towards our close trading partner and neighboring country. Immigration has always been a widely debated topic, and although his policies have always been a little stricter than the other Republican candidates in the primaries, they are only controversial because of his plan of action (i.e. building a wall) rather than reasoning. His visit cannot be too detrimental, although that depends on the receptiveness of Mexico and the way Trump delivers his plans and ideas. -Reagan Harrison

Just wanted to say - this is beneficial to his campaign. Trumps target market is the uneducated. He's also pandering to those who want massive change.

Trump 1.0 got most of what he wanted and they're already set on a candidate. All Trump 2.0 is doing is picking up more people. No ones going to stop supporting him that already did for a reason like this. All this is doing is helping him. Just look at the ratings.
